About The Arc of Philadelphia
Founded in 1948 by parents seeking better services for their children with developmental disabilities, The Arc of Philadelphia is one of the first of over 700 Arc chapters in the United States. The organization has been a powerful voice in shaping services for people with disabilities, advocating for education rights, the closure of institutions like Pennhurst, and promoting community-based services. As part of the SpArc Philadelphia family, The Arc continues to support individuals with disabilities through advocacy, referral, family supports, and legislative action.
